I have to talk POLISH!

If you can post pictures of it from front and back we can probably tell you what it is. If its crest feathers look like a mushroom it a pullet. It they are wild and crazy a cockerel. Also look for the long skinny saddle feathers.

To anyone asking the gender of their Polish - Look at their backs. Look closely at the feathers sitting atop the backs, between the wings, and tell me - Are any of them shinier, more pointy, or generally more different than the rest? Same goes for the crest. Any of them more toothy, pointed, but most importantly more shiny than the rest? That's you cue for a boy.

Comb/wattles shouldn't be an easy thing since Polish are supposed to have pretty much no comb, and wattles either not existing or very small even if it's a boy.

From what I see in the photos, Moonchild I agree. Kristye I'd like to see more photos of the back or general body and less of the crest.

Illia, thank you for that. It's as if the scales have fallen from my eyes! The gender of most of my 23 chicks is crystal clear now, with only three of them ambiguous. The iffy ones are frizzels. They are 8 weeks old.

I need to think about culling nine of the males and four of the females. How would you go about picking the best of the best? There is one with crooked toes and one squirrel tail, so those can go. There are a couple that look (and feel) too skinny. I have the 2010 SOP but I'm having trouble narrowing it down. They are Tolbunts, so I suppose that if I have birds of equal type a final cut could be made on color.

Here is one of the boys (I think).

a different view, do polish roosters tails flop like other breeds?

Looking at the pics I think mine looks more like your silver in real life than your gold? But honestly I don't see much of a difference. I'm assuming it will be pretty obvious once she starts getting feathers?
