I have to talk POLISH!

Not sure if I shared the first pic of my boy Rock. The second picture is today. He normally stands tall and proud but he'd just been chastised by my big GLW roo for jumping on one of the ladies. Thanks for letting me share. Any comments are welcome. I've got two polish eggs in the incubator due tuesday and will be ordering 12 more this week. I'd like to get him some ladies. He's just getting his crest and tail back from the guinea bullies that were in the yard. He is 6 months old. Sarah

I have a rooster that looks just like him. His name is Stosch which is Polish for Stan..... lol. Although he has a large V comb. I'd post a picture but I don't know how to get to my uploads.

I have 2 new polish that hatched Tuesday from Hot2pot. I think they may be silver laced but I'm not sure. I just love them.

Well I just gotta say, I'm super stoked, as I'm collecting up eggs to set a BUNCH of Polish eggs next week to hatch early Feb, from a week before Valentine's day til Valentine's day. (two hatches a week apart)

The hatches I'm expecting will be of Tolbunts, Gold Laced, Splits, and a lot of mutt colors I'll either keep if they're good, eat if they're boys, or sell if they're girls. I know a lot of you have pet chickens but, I'll admit, haven't had Polish yet but I have culled plenty of my own, I'm just curious this upcoming batch as to how they are, edibility-wise. (taste, texture) I've got a young very poor quality cockerel out there right now, and he's really filling out! I'd give credit of that mainly to his mom. (one of my long-time pet WCB hens, very well filled girl) Anyway, he's due to the freezer in a few months.

Sad I know, but, it's better than storebought chicken.

It's very sad. But even sadder to grow up a supermarket oven stuffer roaster. Even as a pet chicken owner, I would choose to raise chicken for food if I had to. And it sounds much much better than just killing them for being the wrong color, and not eating them.

Can't wait to see the chicks you hatch.

Well one of my wcbs is missing. He just wasn't in the coop last night. It is odd because the babies do not leave the coop or separate from eachother at all. I am very sad and do believe I am destined to not own a white crested!

Keep holding on to your hope, - My first Polish were a group of WCB hens, my favorite girl and a slightly skittish girl one day went missing into the wilderness/forest and didn't return, I was worried sick, and, the first girl was found about a week later, the second two weeks later, both uninjured and just simply hungry. I was soooo happy to get them back, and out here, a bird like them missing in these forests to make it out alive is just amazing.

The slightly skittish girl since then has been very friendly to me.

I had a raccoon get into my showgirl coop once. That night all i could find was the rooster bloody and not moving but still alive. I was sooo sad to know that the coons got all of my girls and that when my roo was better he would be all alone. Lo and behold a couple of days later i was mustering about the house and took a glimpse outside and his favorite girl was just wandering around with the flock. She had a slight limp but was overall okay.

Have a dozen (plus) eggs (bantam) from WC choc cuckoo roo over 2 WC choc. cuckoo girls (frizzle) and 2 WC black girls (1 smooth and 1 frizzle) if anyone is interested...i have to slow way down on hatching...my girls have been laying great...i am sitting on an easy 100 under 4 months (silkies and polish)...not liking the new auctions so i figured I'd ask here before i feed them to the flock

So Polish wise ones.... how do they lay? Thinking about getting 2 polish hens this week to add into my mixed flock. Are they good layers? My kids will love their fancy feathers.

I am trying to read back through this thread to find good info but 82 pages is a little daunting. tia!
