I am near Grass Valley, California. Not that far from you.
Beautiful birds! Where are you located? I'm in N. California near Sacramento. I think polish chicks are so awesomely cute!

Ok I posted that I got babies while I was on bed rest. Well there seems to be something wrong with my white and buff babies. Their eyes keep getting stuck shut. It looks kind of like a child with pink eye. The eyes are a little swollen and stuck shut. I wash them with warm water and they are ok for a few hours. Any ideas on how to help my little ones?

I do have a question...are they decent layers? or are some lines decent....what about hatchery babies....I dont know if I want to purchase them from purely poultry (who has been very good to me and they have many colors that you can mix and match) or go with hatching eggs...I've never done that before but I have 8 silkie babies this year ...so I could probably try it next year :) I'm not looking for an egg a day or anything! but 3 a week would be wonderful...and then I could tell my hubby that they will be layers...and I could get more

:) and what size and color are the eggs? I eat all sizes and have banies that lay every day...takes 3 days to equal one reg egg...but they add up :)

Annabell I used to get 3-4 eggs per chicken a week. I raised standards but they come in bantam size. I would say between med and large eggs. They are white eggs. I have bought a crested mix from Ideal and I received mutts. No problem for me but others might get upset. I JUST (Monday) got babies from McMurry and other than shipping stress they are great so far. Hope it helps! I have posted tons of pics of my guys and gals.

I am very impressed with the laying of this breed. I have four hens and get four eggs 6 days a week and one day a week I get three. Very impressive! Mine are from a breeder and from what I've read, some of the people who have hatchery stock don't have as good of layers so I think that makes a difference and if you purchase from a breeder I'd ask how good their line lays.

I agree. My polish lay an egg a day, on most days and the eggs are medium to large in size. They did stop for a bit last winter but the prior winter they laid consistantly. My polish are standard size, not bantams. Also, they are not from a hatchery.
