For those of you with Red Polish here is a picture of a red polish that I ordered from Ideal just to see what reds look like. I did not keep him, too many males.
marlowmanor are you sure that that little buff laced bird is female ? I have two like that and thought that the one with pale color was a female but they both grew up to be males. Both are frizzle though. One caugh a pneumonia after a rain storm and he died.
yea Seminolewind you are right ! I looked at her again and see now. I guess that I was so surprised by my frizzle pullet being a male. ha ha The one that I have left makes pretty babies though. However i have to give all the pretty frizzles away since I do not want frizzle gene in my flock no matter how pretty it is. Low maintanence is one of my goals. Variety, hardiness and colorful eggs are the others. Don't even care if I have full bred birds. My brabanter and EE are favorites but my ams and marans are feather pickers. I am using the piness peepers now so maybe after the fall molt I will have a good looking flock again.
I am thinking that being able to let the birds range daily is the only answer to keep them happy and not bored. I have two young polish growing out with a few silkies. I really am hoping that the gold laced is a boy since he is so calm and doesn't mind being handled after he is caught. Got repost new pictures and ask for gender guesses although it is still early.
Flower, I don't care if my Polish are a particular type either. They are just so sweet. Hardy birds are important, since right now I'm finding out the hard way that some of mine are, well, fragile. But they're my favorites.
And I've commited myself not to get rid of any of the roos from now on. My hubby and I are crazy about the Polish roos.
I have 3 Polish girls that free ranged with the flock for 4 years. They always hid in the bushes, like all day. Then I moved them into a huge pen with a big big tree, and added some other chickens, but they are like different birds. They just really enjoy not being picked on and the pen is okay with them!
I have updates on my Polish chicks! All 3 were born within 12 hrs of each other. They are 7 weeks old now. One of them is clearly different. Its poof is really odd, narrow and crazy. The other 2 have big round afro poofs. With my luck, they will all turn into roosters (thats been the theme so far). But right now, I think I might have 2 pullets and a roo? What do y'all think? The little one on the left, the potential roo, has the best personality ever. I can't keep him from jumping onto my lens when I am taking photos.
Here is the side by side comparison
here is the one I think is a roo. He is so friendly, but was very loud today!
My daughter loving the little chick. This is my one with the goofy toe (it was probably broken and healed crooked)
Thank you. I cannot believe I'll end up with 2 girls & a boy!! Since they are related I will probably have to rehome the little roo. I just love him thou!!!
