I have to talk POLISH!

He is very pretty. I love their "hair-dos".

My Polish rooster has started charging me lately when I get around the hens.
He is still very young. Only 17 weeks.

You need to nip that in the bud right quick like. I had one that got so bad he bruised my legs and I could not even go out in the yard without a stick. After I killed him I read up on it and tried the advise of some who said grab him up and hold him under your arm and with the other hand gently but firmly push his head downward till it is pointed toward the ground. Hold it there a bit and then move your hand. When he picks his head up do it again and keeping doing it till he holds it down himself without picking it up till you put him down. It has worked on three of mine and now I have no rooster problems. They each thought they were going to charge me but no more. I wish I had known before not to hit mine or kick him as that was my instinct when I was attacked. It just made it worse till I had to kill him as I have small grandkids in my yard.

welasharon Thank you for that post. I will keep in in my book of tips. I have not have very nice roosters so far. Only an adult Silkie who tries to be aggressive but how aggressive can a silkie be. But my Polish will so be coming into the testosterone rage so I will need to know what to do.

I feel bad about the first one and he was a GLx tolbunt to make matters worse. He was so big but I also think he just may have been crazy as well.

I have luck with "Who's the boss" in rooster language. First one to back down, back up or back away loses. Keep walking toward the roo and make him keep walking. Do it as long and as often as you can. It usually takes them a week to figure it out.

I'm so excited!!! I'm expecting my first baby polish chicks to hatch soon. Ive only every bought chicks at a couple weeks old. This will be my first time hatching my own!

goof luck! I am watching one of mine that I am worried is a rooster. Don't need a rooster. It has those spikes going up the nose, but I am still..not..seeing any wattles started. hmmm? Only 3 weeks old come Sunday.

Yeah by 6 weeks you will have a better idea.

Well now, I notice there are another set of spikes up above the others. Interesting. I checked for wattles, I know, early, I do see some started, way tiny. Don't the pullets/hens have a bit of a wattle too? Hope so, I am growing soo attached to this little one. It is so sweet to the other babies that are a week younger. Has beautiful green eyes..wonder if those will stay green. With the barred, cuckoo, or crele, color, it's pretty. I will take another picture soon, it is changing so fast. They always do..all of the chicks.
