I have to talk POLISH!

No I haven't... I wasn't aware there was a photography thread. :)

Yeah, my hubby bought a big, expensive camera recently, and he's used it to take more pictures of the chickens than anything else lol

Hi Everyone,
My name is Jen and I am new here. I just wanted to share a few pics of my new white crested black polish pullet Cricket. We named her that because she is really flighty and when the other girls leave her behind (since her crest is SO big she can hardly see even though I trimmed her feathers recently) she makes this really cute chirp sound. Enjoy.
(10/8/12 the day after I got her. The guy I got her from said she was about 8-9 weeks old)

Hey! I go to FB quite often! My parents live up there and gparents, 2 sisters..

Anyway, did you happen to get her from a guy in Lower Lake? That is where I got mine. Would you like another one? I'm trying to rehome the one I have because I don't really want a polish lol. My girl is about 6 months, I posted her a couple posts back on this thread.

My Patricia is a good layer and a sweetie, Her crest was badly picked but grew in nicely after molt and I am considering entering her in a local Bantam show just for fun. It would be a first for me. These photos are just fair so I try to get better ones later.

This boy was sold as large fowl. Nope he is bantam. Mr.No Name until I think of one for this calm but reserved boy.

I could think of quite a few names for your little roo if you wanted them! lol At the top of my list of suggestions: Russel Crow and Justin Beaker. There's also Mr. Bates from Downton Abbey, who is a very reserved character, though I can't think of a good chicken-y play on his name right now. :)

And thank you. I am considering a couple of book ideas at the moment, actually, but I haven't come up with anything solid yet.

I gave my Polish a "hair" cut yesterday with my husband's help. They weren't happy about it, but Bjork was very excited to suddenly be able to see when I was done. lol

I agree that cutting the feathers away from the eyes makes for a more active birdie. I did cut Patricia's a while back (way before molt) and she seems happier and smarter. I'll cut them again if I do not enter her in a show. Thanks for considering names for my little GL rooster but I think that I need to make the choice. Besides I do not have knowledge of common references, as I am without TV and other usual frame of references such as popular books and etc.

Hey PGRanch, yeah, I did get her from Lower Lake (along with a "silver cuckoo marans" which is probably an EE X). Strange guy, strange place. Sure, I would love to take your polish off of your hands, but my husband would probably have a bit of a fit. I already have more than he wanted me to have. I wish I could help. -Jen

Yes he is quite strange. I hope he didn't call you and creep you out like he did to me! LOL

he called me to set up a time to come over. He wasn't too creepy on the phone, but then my 5 yo daughter and I drove out there and I was a little freaked out. then he was concerned about us wandering off the "trail" (probably didn't want us to find his marijuana grow) but it wasn't like we could get all that lost being 5 feet from the road. then he told us that the only chickens that were available were the straight run chicks that were all under 12 weeks. I was a little annoyed since he made it seem like there was a LARGE selection of all breeds and ages. it was just strange. probably wont go back.

lol No worries, I live under a rock too. The only reason I know about Downton Abbey is because they have it on Netflix and my husband and I have been watching it through there.
