I really shouldn't because I rent an apartment (really one half of a renovated barn with a large yard) but I REALLY wanted one and i'm hoping he isn't loud. that's the only issue I have. He seems friendly.
Yeah it is haha that's funny. We are looking into getting a house soon so as long as he can hold out until then. I guess he was with a female as well and was breeding and heard other roosters and still hasn't crowed. But just watch, it's my luck he will start up at 6am tomorrow! That's a shame. Maybe you could find a quiet roo that someone is giving away? Then you would know it's quiet. BTW is your name Kayla? If it is, that's my name too.![]()
Winnie was part of a trio of white chicks that we got from a rainbow layer assortment, and since they all looked alike, I thought they should have names based on a trio from television or movies. I'm a big fan of Hocus Pocus, so I decided to name them after the three witch sisters Winnie, Sara, and Mary. "Mary" turned out to be a boy, so he's called Mars now, but the other two remain unchanged.
Winnie is my favorite of the trio, and she's an absolute sweet heart. She was in the house yesterday for an injured leg, but she's doing much better now.
Was his tail dropped before the bath? He looks a little under the weather. I would quarantine him for a couple of weeks to be safe.Hello! I'm a silkie thread person but I just got a silver laced cockerel at a swap today! The woman said he is 5 months old, but he hasn't started crowing yet. Is this normal? Also she said they are quieter than other roosters, I had gotten a barred rock roo last weekend and he was OBNOXIOUS! Anyway, how does he look? I know nothing about polish, only silkies, so if you could give me some critique that would be great! He crest was disgusting and I think he had lice so he got a flea bath and a good scrubbing! His crest is still dingy but it looks 100% better than before.

I agree that Polish seem to be quieter and take longer to crow than other breeds. Also, if there are other roosters around, he may be too intimidated to crow.
I like him but would absolutely isolate him for at least a month. If you have a crate to keep him in and cover it at night, it will help if decided to crow at some point. Right now he might not be comfortable until he become part of the flock and that will take some time since he needs to be in quarantine until you are sure he is not carrying any disease which will compromise your other birds. Some peeps put their rooster in the garage for the night.![]()
Yeah that happens with my silkies too haha, anytime I post pictures of them after a bath and their tails are drooped I always get asked about their tails. Can't be too cautious I guess!Great, glad to hear he is perky today I am sure it was just the bath, but dropped tails always make me uncomfortable.![]()
