I would choose vinegar over bleach.

I put apple cider vinegar in my chickens drinking water.... helps keep things clean and algae free and has benefits for the chickens. I use 2 Tbsp to one gallon of water.

When I'm scrubbing things I'm also fond of using good ol Dawn dish soap.

Bleach will work fine. I use bleach to clean all my waters and feeders.

If you're on city/municipal water you already have bleach (sodium hypochlorite) in the water.
