I Hear DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To each his own. You are doing well with hatching your way so why fix something that isnt broken, right?

The cooling is just what has worked for me, though the humidity was a bit higher and went too high if I misted.

I agree....each person does their own thing....and it's whatever works!!! I think everyone has their unique hatching "mojo"! And, girl, you've GOT the mojo!!!

So do you Nancy!!!!

Actually I am still learning and learning....I will never consider myself an expert.
Well, NOW I believe this hatch is done.(I shouldnt say that, huh??)

Heck Nancy, I think leave it alone is the best advice I was ever given about hatching turkeys. Don't fiddle, hatch like you always do, just longer.

I'd supposed it's regionally dependent, possibly even microclimate specific but it works here with my turkeys and guineas.

Don't fix what ain't broken and I swear "forgetting" about some of this stuff helps.

I tend to "idolize" certain people who are good at what they do and though it's probably not a smart thing to do, I kind of follow their word like it's THE word unless something important changes my mind.

When I first got into this, I depended heavily on a friend of mine in upstate NY who is sort of an animal "guru" as she is a big regional 4H person and she lectures at different colleges and extension services in the North Country on a variety of topics. THEN, when I got my first geese from Dennis Fuller at Wapsi Waterfowl, I found him to be excellent at dispensing complete, well researched, accurate and articulate information. Plus, it was usually very close to the information I got from my upstate friend.

So, I know that there are different camps who do different things and there are even cliques out there, but in the regard of getting information on my ducks and geese, I'm pretty happy with keeping company with my two main "mentors"...even though I could NEVER be as precise and detailed as Dennis!!

But, with that said, and I mean this sincerely, people have to do what works for them and if their results are good, even if they do EVERYTHING opposite from "the book", that's their business! I just had some local chicken person try to take over my life and criticize everything I did to the point of being a psycho and it really showed me the person that I do NOT want to be!!! It drove home the point that there really are more ways to do the same thing correctly.

Enough on the rambling soapbox for this hour. LOL.

Whoa, that person DOES sound psycho!! I cant imagine trying to turn someones ways upside down and all across just because "I" thought my way was better!!!
Thats not fair, and I KNOW the world isnt fair, but I, myself, TRY to be.
I hope she gets off your case.

Thanks, Mags. I've done my best to insulate myself from the person as much as possible...blocking e-mails, ignoring phone messages (saving them without listening in case I need them for an attorney or police), and saving the rantings I got in my mail box the other day all over the outside of an envelope. Plus, I've heard from many other people who have experienced this person's psychotic rants and so if it continues, my lawyer will just take over. Right now, it is not yet worth the effort and I hope the person JUST goes away.

But, I love having people who understand how I feel. It's comforting. Thanks!

My daughter ran into one of those people not long ago, since she is young, she was far more bothered than I'd be. I had to walk her through all the "what to do about the psycho" advice.

I'm used to them - too many exist in the "dog world" in which I've always worked.

Nancy - did you get my PM about a source for poults? I know they do small orders and ship.

Hugs to you all. I love ducks but don't have any. And I want toulouse eventually but I need to build in a small pond. Rescuing the duckling this year was my first experience with them - omg... too adorable. I loved Duckbutt but he has a nice home with Amazondoc now and buddies.

Thanks for the poult message. I'll try it! If you want a few ducklings shipped, I have a whole mess of 'em! I should get advice from you on the psycho. I'm not good with them...maybe because I'm one, too.

I've done the dog rescue thing (and this psycho is a dog person, too) and I ran into TONS of them and never dealt well.

LOL....Sorry, Mags, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I'm laughing because so many people are thread "killers", I am a bona-fide "hijacker" and don't notice I've done it until it's too late.
