My daughter and I put a couple of ceramic eggs in the empty nests to try and encourage laying there, instead of crowding in to the nest with a setting hen. One is gone. I sure hope that whatever critter stole it hurt itself when it tried to eat it!
I'm both angry that there is a thief and amused thinking about trying to crack or bite the egg.
. :gig

Question unrelated to egg laying....I rescued a chick (6 weeks old) and I would like to put her out with my adult hens (in her own cage until she's old enough to defend herself) but my question is can a six week old chick stay outside in an insulated coop when the nights are getting down to 45 degrees?

You should make your own thread for this question.
