I hope my hens DO NOT start laying soon. NO EGGS please!!

Yeppers....I've got some 23-week olds myself that have been red-faced for 2-3 weeks and have not laid yet. Maybe it's the weather this year?

But, I've had a few in the past that didn't start until 32 or 33 weeks. ACK! The good thing is that those were the only Jumbo layers I've ever had...so...I guess good things (huge eggs) come to those who wait....

I'm with you - no eggs for me either! I don't give a flip if mine EVER lay!

Reverse psychology worked on my girls. I just went around acting like eggs was the very LAST thing on my mind, and poof, there one was, a week later. (Not that I cared of course.)

my rir's took 25 weeks. now i get an egg a day. sometimes i wish they would stop for a day or two. so i can get caught up eating the eggs.7 eggs a day is alot for 1 person. lol

Ok! I originally had 8 chicks (all hens - 3 RIR, 3 BS and 2 SLW), when they were about 12 weeks old I gave two away (1 RIR and 1 BS) to a friend of a friend, who wanted a few more for her flock, and I needed to give two away to prevent overcrowding in my 4' x 6' coop (the run is plenty big for 8 chickens).

All 8 of these hens are 20 weeks old today (9/2) and guess what? None of the six that I kept are laying, but the RIR I gave away has been laying for a week now.

My 18 yr old son, has determined that I have a "Feathered Freeloading Flock". I'm beginning to think he may be right.

Is there any hope that I should be getting an egg soon. The RIRs have very red combs and waddles. I'm trying to be so very patient with them..........but I want to join the "Got My First Egg" thread.
