Hey eveyone... Well I went out tonight to go pick up a mower deck. I left my 10 golden commets in my tractor run. When I came home I found a big cat trying to get though the chicken wire!!!! I had my maglight in my hand so when I got close to the tractor I screamed and it didn't move so I threw my mag light and it smashed into the cat. I got up to it and sacked it again to get the message through and it scurryed away. Luckly I came home when I did, or I could of lost one of my girls.

Just needed to vent!!

I live way out in the sticks. It seems like all the people in the world would drop their unwanted cats off out here. My solution I got a very nice border collie from the pound. The best dog i have ever had. Guess what no more stray cats.

This may seem sadistic, but here goes:

I use to have a coop cat, she loved nothing more than a big old broody hen on a chilly night, best bed warmer in the world!!!

I can see both sides of this. My cat, Jinx, will have nothing to do with my birds, they are too scawwy for him. Wild birds are another story though! And because we live a bit further out than some, but still quite close to a major highway, people assume that it's ok to drop their unwanted animals here. "These people have a farm, surely they want Fido and Fluffy". We end up taking the poor things to the humane society, assuming they don't get run over or killed by the local wildlife. Why can't folks be responsible for their animals?

Everyone has cat problems, we have no cats! ... We get beautiful and friendly orange tom that comes around once in a while, and we have our adopted humane society cats, Spots and Smokey who... get this... were trying to make a meal of my 4 week old meat birds, but who don't give a hoot when the big hens are free ranging, or the ducks have escaped. They're scared to bits of the hens LOL

Dumped animals, big sigh!!! When I lived out in the country this was a never ending problem for me. Especially dogs.
I too for a while caught them and drove them 30 miles to the HS, then it just became too much and I started dispatching them on myself, I hated it!!!! But with over 75 chickens, a bunch of ducks, geese, peacocks, 4 goats and two horses I just didn't have much of a choice.
One year I took out a 1/2 page ad in the local newspaper that any dogs dumped on the Carlinville Cutoff Road would not find a nice home in the country on a farm with rolling hills with great farmer and plenty of cats to chase but an early grave at the hands of a angry farmer protecting his livestock.
The next couple of months it seemed like the two or three dogs that showed up per month didn't, don't know if the ad had anything to do with it but it sure did hit peoples nerve. The sound off section in the paper was busy with people repyling to my add. It was a 50/50 for and against my actions. I think the paper kept it at 50/50. I was surprised at the people who had complete disdain for me in protecting my livestock. Sure glad I didn't sign my name.
