Im sure the fat will be fine in small doses. The one I made this morning probably had about 2 tablespoons of the hard cold fat and the total thing was about 2 cups worth of cheerios and oatmeal, so thats really not that much, and about 8 chickens split mine. Im guessing maybe once a week, or just whenever I have leftover grease I guess I will use it rather than throw it out.

I always heard that all birds need more fat in cold weather. Holds them over I guess.

freezing it is a good idea. I think i will make sort of a big 'chex mix' if you will, and freeze a big bag of it, then the fat wont go bad, and it will always be handy to throw out for a treat. Plus in the crumbly form, I dont think you would have to worry about giving them too much fat because theres not enough to hold it all together, just enough to coat it all.

i make these little meals for my parrot.. whole wheat pasta, brown rice(cooked), mixed bag of dried beans(cooked), mixed veggies,,etc...and i freeze them up for him, in little sandwich baggies...its real easy to just grab one out of the freezer and feed him......i'm thinking of adding some of the things i use in my parrot mix also....only with the fat and oatmeal to help hold it together..i'll also add the bird seed..maybe some peanut butter...

excellent idea, Im going to do that for my chickens. That actually sounds fun, and a lot more economical.
