I just brought home a chick for a broody hen

No, this hen has never raised chicks before, this would be her first time.
I only had one rooster and I had to dispatch him recently because he got
very, very big and was too aggressive. He attacked me several times,
and managed to get my legs black and blue, I finally put him down. I felt
terrible about it, but I have neighbor children that wanted to see the chickens
and collect the eggs and I couldn't let them inside the coop. The coop is
much more calm with the rooster gone and I'm not constantly looking over
my shoulder to see where he is, not to mention, I don't need a big stick with me
every time I go to tend the flock. I don't think I want any more roosters.

Keeping my fingers crossed that your hen will accept the chick ......

Peeps, I had the same problem with one of my roos. I hated to do it but it had to be done. He was just too mean. Your girls will thank you for it. You only need a rooster if you want chicks. I still have 2 roos, a bantam and a standard cochin. The roos are the protectors of the flock, is another reason you might want to keep a roo. I know my boys are excellent at their job. They take care of their girls. Good luck on the grafting if you try it again. Oh by the way, when I did the grafting my hen had never had babies either. It was her first go around.
