I just can't do it

I have a similar story. I bought several chicks from the feed store and sadly two got eaten. I ended up with just 1 roo. I just recently integrated 6 chicks in with my roo and he's taken to them wonderfully. He protects them when my dog comes by. Just 1 cluck and their in the coop. At night the all curl up on the shelf under my roo. Six little chicks stuffed under him. Cutest thing. My roo is defiantly here to stay!

Awwwww. I'm so glad you decided to keep him. I've got a little Old English Bantam roo too, and he does the exact same thing. You gotta love 'em.

I have one roo that does that and while I think it is nice he takes his protecting way too far. He bullies them to the point where they have stopped laying and they are scared to death of him I think. He tries to attack me every time I go in the coop (unless I carry the pink tennis racket in with me) and is just plain mean. I don't understand it. Needless to say he is headed to the pot tomorrow afternoon. He is making everyone around here including the hens miserable.

Good grief he sounds just like my white devil rooster, who bullies and beats every hen and roo I have, eats first, and keeps several from eating at all, I have been locking him out of the coop so some of my timid ones can come down off the roosts to eat and drink, ggggggggrrrrr hes a white rock rooster BTW and he has several followers roos as well that are acting just like him. White devil 2 and a BO roo with yellow legs named Oliver...... today my Beautiful EE Black Beard tried to beat up a very timid BO, for no reason............these white devils have to go................ they are not only a terror to my other roos but my hens are scred of them as well, they will even breed another rooster, and they are huge next to most of my flock.

I'm a hatch-a-holic. My hatches have been pretty much 50/50. I have had some hatches where I have gotten a few more girls than boys, I do keep some but do find new homes for most. I have one RIR just over 5 months old and he is my boyfriend. He dances for me, picks things up off of the ground and brings them over to me and drops whatever in front of me and when any of the pullets get close to me he chases them off. I tried to get a video today but we had company and he wouldn't dance in front of the company.

I hope when I get my roo on Sat he is sweet like some of yours sound! I have mostly heard horror stories of roos so I am kinda nervous...he will be young tho, only about 3 months. BLRW, very excited!! Is there a certain age when they start acting like roos? will a 3 month old just fit right in and be ok with my 3 month old pullets?
