Yeah if I had to guess I'd say perhaps slow maturing cockerel as well for both since neither have the proper lacing for a barnie hen and with the exception of the comb/wattles not being as red as I'd expect, both look a lot more like silver cockerel than pulletI’m going to guess two cockerels... but I could be wrong. Also there looks to be some mixed breeding going on to me. All my Barnvelder boys have far stubbier tails than I was expecting in a cockerel. the hackle feathers on both are quite pointy compared to my Barnvelder girls. I had 6/8 cockerels, and I kept trying to convince myself more were girls!
Well it's just become very clear! Both cockerells! One just crowed this morning, and the other tried to mount a hen!!!![]()
Yeah my little barnie roo is 7 weeks old tomorrow and he is extremely obvious and has been increasingly so for weeks although I suspected him since week 1 based on leg size, stance, and feathering rate. He is still one of the smaller chickens in my flock though and one of the more passive compared to my boss pullets and the larger more dominant EE roo.I was just going to respond then read this. That’s crazy that it took 6 months For these guys to mature. My barnevelders roosters were pretty obvious by 5-6 weeks and crowing by 2-3 months. They were huge compared to my hens.
