I just couldn't do it...

Watch it now. I have that many cats plus outside. Never did have squirrels when I moved out here. But my cats sure do take care of any brave chipmunk who happens to stroll on our grounds.

Don't feel bad at all!! My father has been an avid hunter for many, many years. My mother has cooked and canned just about every type of wildlife available in this area. However, when I gave Dad two quail that I had dispatched (one a dog injuried, and the other had a broken leg), Mom said she still has them in the freezer and just can't cook them. Said she took them out several times, and every time she looks at their little bodies and remembers the cute quail and puts them back in the freezer.

Chipmunks are a huge weakness with me. Just can't kill 'em! I love watching them, and guessing how much food they'll store in those cheeks before moving on.

Squirrels love peanuts and they might leave everything else alone.

I refuse on philosophical grounds to pay extortion money....err...extortion peanuts.

Or become a crazy cat lady with 15 cats or so and that should take care of the squirrels.

I have 3 cats already and none even glance at the squirrels. The darn things are almost as big as the cats anyhow!! I am sure if I picked up a few additional cats, the three I already have would tell the new cats that the squirrels are too fast so why bother and show them where the most comfy spot is to lay in the shade.

If you can't do the deed maybe others will.

I have a friend who is trying to get the money together to move to where I am. She would do it.

Sorry Crazy cat lady,

I should of known there was a person with that name.

It sounds like you need to cut back on feeding those 3 cats. They sound very fat & happy. To content to go out and kill anything.

A little hunger should jump start those natural instincts.

I dunno, squirrels are a hard kill for most cats that I have had. My old cat Thomas would get them occasionally, but it was rare. I don't think either of my current cats have brought a squirrel. Mice, birds, etc. yes - so the hunting instincts are in high gear, but they don't bring in squirrels.

I've fried two on my electric fence though ---- so there's an option. Run a hot wire a few inches from a grounded wire fence, and when the squirrel tries to climb through the fence and grabs the wire --- ZAP! I always find them when I'm trying to figure out why my e-fence suddenly quit working

patman75 has a great solution. Someone who wants to hunt/practice and hopefully has fried squirrel for dinner.

Zilla aka Marshmallow, I for one am proud of you. They are a pain in the heiny but they are living creatures just doing what they know. The many running around our back yard snuck into the garage through the window and sat on top of the fridge and polished off a bag of black oil seeds (the chicken's) and when I opened the freezer door down came all these empty seeds. Oh well, our fault for leaving them up there and the window open.
I honestly think my male cat Rocky and the squirrels have become quite chummy over the past several weeks. He sits roughly 2 feet away from them as they eat the chickens crumble.

just wanted to share this.... I have outdoor cats cuz wife is allergic... Most of mine will not bother with a full grown squirrel, although babies that fall out of the nest, or are sickly are sometimes left as an offering on my backyard table.

The cats will drag home rabbits, but not squirrels? Go figure
