I know JUST how you felt. So so sorry about Ginger. Two things to tell all of you. First of all, I had a guinea chick hatch one time that couldn't put her head right. It was bent over her back. I cried and cried and drove her to the local animal shelter and they did the deed for me. (no charge) This was a lo-ong time ago before I had any experience or this wonderful site. But maybe that's something some of you could do if you are faced with the inevitable. OR...
Secondly, I had to put a chick out of her misery last fall and had never done it before. I was exactly in your shoes! The thought of killing her with my hands...well...I knew it would haunt me but I also knew I had to stop the suffering. Soo, I wrapped her in a soft cloth, put her in a plastic grocery bag and put her behind the rear wheel of my car and ran over her. It was instantaneous, I didn't have to see it and so, if I ever have to put a chick away again, I'll probably do the same thing.
