I just culled Ginger- First time, just need to share

Sooo sad

I can feel the pain of teetering and what to do, how to do it, should I, shouldn't I, ugh...sooo hard!!! My hubby has had to put a few things out of misery for me, because I just plain chickened out (no pun intended) sooo lucky there, but it's still VERY HARD...it would be easier to just check in on them and poof they are gone (if they are going to go anyhow, I wish they would just do it quickly when I'm not looking)

It's over, she's in a better place and you did what you had to do...Of course there is a chicken heaven!!! She's fly'n over that rainbow now

I'm sorry about Ginger. I have a Ginger, too. This is one of the hardest parts of chicken keeping.

I know JUST how you felt. So so sorry about Ginger. Two things to tell all of you. First of all, I had a guinea chick hatch one time that couldn't put her head right. It was bent over her back. I cried and cried and drove her to the local animal shelter and they did the deed for me. (no charge) This was a lo-ong time ago before I had any experience or this wonderful site. But maybe that's something some of you could do if you are faced with the inevitable. OR...

Secondly, I had to put a chick out of her misery last fall and had never done it before. I was exactly in your shoes! The thought of killing her with my hands...well...I knew it would haunt me but I also knew I had to stop the suffering. Soo, I wrapped her in a soft cloth, put her in a plastic grocery bag and put her behind the rear wheel of my car and ran over her. It was instantaneous, I didn't have to see it and so, if I ever have to put a chick away again, I'll probably do the same thing.
