My whole family is Catholic and when my sister was here to visit, she had a hard time when she found out I eat (and serve) fertile eggs. She felt like it was chicken abortion or something.
I tried explaining to her how there is no embryo until it's incubated, but that didn't convince her. Finally, in exasperation, I just said, "We eat chicken all the time - what does it matter?" That finally got through to her - we eat Cornish game hens (which I told her were only about 2 weeks old when they're processed), we eat lots of chicken from the grocery and we eat eggs - why did it matter if the eggs were fertile when we were going to eat chicken regardless?
In addition, my husband would kill me if I incubated ALL the eggs my chickens laid.
