I just had to call the cops!

You should definatly report it to the DNR cause I can almost gaurantee you he was poaching. Even though it's deer season , he probably already has his limit and is out getting more. A 22 makes little noise so it is favored by poachers.
It is usually illegal to hunt deer with a 22 even if you aren't over your bag limit.
If they find it to be poaching they will take his gun, fine him alot, and possibly take his liscence privilege away for a few years. Not to mention fines for firing towards a house, trespassing, ecetera.

I remember a famous case in Georgia, I believe, where a woman was in her backyard and behind her backyard was a wooded area. She was shot in her very large backyard just a few feet from her house and they had the unmitigated gall to suggest it was her fault for not wearing an orange vest in her own dang backyard! That made me angry for months and just remembering it makes my blood boil. I like to wear those mens' three button shirts alot and I got a huge one on sale once in a bright pumpkin orange color. I call it my "Dont Shoot Me Shirt". So, yes, Trisha be very careful and aware of your surroundings. Maybe you and Danny should walk your property to be sure no one has set up a deer stand inside or just outside the perimeter.

when I lived in New York, we would stop hiking during deer season. Anyone can buy a liscense and take the little test, and anyone did. We had way to many scary yahoos from the City and from NJ who came to the Catskills to hunt, with out a clue what they were doing. Remember the case where the woman got shot in her own backyard while wearing white mittens, the guy thought it was the flash of a tail and shot. With the scope he had on his rifle he should have been able to tell if the mittens were acrylic or wool.

Your dude with the 22 seems to be in this yahoo catagory.

Oh Trisha....Im so happy to hear you and your animals are ok. I would be scared crapless first, then mad as a wet hen!! We have posted NO TRESPASSING signs on our property as well. I DARE them to come shoot in MY woods....the animals that live here...shoot back!

Geez louise, that inconsiderate bloodthirsty moron needs to be shot. Not that I have an opinion.

I'm glad you are okay.

I hope the deer got away.

2007-2008 Fishing and Hunting Regulations

"white-tailed deer, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope may NOT be hunted with rimfire ammunition of any caliber."

"Restricted Methods
It is unlawful for any person, while hunting or engaging in recreational shooting, to knowingly discharge a firearm in such a fashion as to cause a projectile to cross a property line, unless the person owns the property on both sides of the property line or has obtained written permission from the owner of any land crossed by the projectile."

Took this off their website.

I wouldn't go over there, he could be stupid enough to threaten you with a gun, and report you as trespassing. Just report him and let the authorities deal with him. In the meantime, please be careful!!

I'd love if you could shoot him - with a camera.

Love these posts from TX. In rural NY here, where people have shot dogs, cows, our house and occasionally each other whilst deer hunting....

Trish definately go to the DNR with this, those guys don't play.

I advise you and Danny to not approach him, its already very clear he doesn't have any regard for human life or the consiquenses of his actions.

If this guy can't see something as big as a house, he wouldn't pay attention to any human even dressed in a neon orange jumpsuit.

You may just save this clowns life by reporting him, as well as someone else's.

If he does this to the wrong individual he'll become worm food in a heartbeat.

A freakin' Idiot loose with a gun is very dangerous.
