I know she was a bantam, so it probably doesn't count as an adult, but she lost the use of her legs and was losing weight. I didn't want her to suffer, so I thought I'd try the broom handle method. I held her and told her I'm sorry, then I did it quickly, but instead of just breaking her neck, I broke it and her head popped off.......

I know it was quick, but I was looking for a bloodless way to put her down......... I guess I pulled too hard.....

I hate to ask, but I like you might have to humanely put one of my chickens down. Can you explain the broom method? It sounds much better than me than using an axe.

Zoo I am so so sorry.

Bantams are so small that removing the head is very easy to do with the broom method. But at least it was quick for her...you did good.

I am sorry you had to do that...I still can't can't do it...I have either my hubby or brother in law to do it...AND I can't be no where around....I get too attached to everything I own.

If you an use the axe then do that. The broom method is to lay the bird down and put the handle acrossed it neck. Stand on the broom w/ both feet and put the bird up by it's feet. A quick jerk is best. I used a 2" by 1" stick. And then you
