I just hatched my first goose egg!

Urgh I do believe they have but we planned to sell them. My fiancé ordered rare breed day olds a lot of females all but one. So it will be 7 more plus our 5:eek:. If we keep these it will be 16!!! I feel like that’s too many geese lol but they are sooooo cute. Even my fav chick little foot likes them
Aw, lol. Well, good luck with selling them! I would never be able to bring myself to sell them, I get so attached  Lots of babies at your house 🥰 Feel free to send me some😂

Aw, sorry! You should hide your favorite and keep it, lol. I have no problem selling chickens, but ducklings are tough for me, and I sure goslings would be even worse.
Yes for some reason I got such an attachment in just a few days-so quickly. That’s why I said okay just have her come today because I knew if I loved them so much in a few days I would’ve never given them up. I think because of the whole imprinting if I hatch them again I’m keeping them I’m so upset. Glad you know what I mean!

I am a bit of a bird hoarder for that very reason, lol! I love birds so much. Almost as much as my dog. I have a very special gander who I raised from a brand new egg to now. It was incredible to watch his little heart beat in there at about 5 days. He was an only baby and is very spoiled, he's my best buddy. I like my Bobwhite quail a lot too, though I think I got too many and they imprinted on each other. I hatched them too. My sweet little make Bob died for some weird reason, and the rest are crazy. I only have 13 of them, I don't know why they didn't imprint but they are a wilder breed so Idk. My chickens are nice, not very smart though. Ducks were one of my favorites. I am currently having duckling fever seeing everyone's new babies on here, lol.

Hahah yes one of my little chicks seems to have imprinted the rest are crazy. They will sit on my shoulder I’m trying to get them used to it. But the geese( and ducks prob) just think you are their mama. It’s so amazing. I’m wondering if the day olds will imprint like my hatched goslings did I really reallyyyyy hope so. My 3 pekin girls we got as day olds and they never imprinted on me :( so I’m afraid lol.

My 3 chicks I ordered imprinted on each other while shipping I think, but they were still nice enough, they come when called and let me pet them. They are chickens though, I've never ordered ducks or geese. I have seen a lot of members on here with really nice geese that they ordered. You ordered 7 right? I think they would still be nice. You could even set up 2 different brooders which I had to do when I had a big batch of ducks and wanted them to be friendly. That way you could put 3/4 in each brooder. They won't have such a big group then. If you love up on them and hold them all the time they probably will be fine.

Wow thanks that’s a good recommendation! It was only 3 ducks and they still completely hated us from the beginning lol. I think you’re right about imprinting when shipped.
We have two starter brooders in my spare bedroom. Then we have a huge brooder in the basement so I’m definitely going to do that! We did order 7, I don’t know if they’ll shove them all together or separate them but there will also be 2 runners in there as well.
Do you have any recommendations about making them friendly besides that?
None of my ducks or geese will let us touch them at. all. I know they feed off of eachother and a lot are rescues so I understand their fear but I keep thinking I did a horrible job in that department.
I spend a lot of time with them so I don’t get it. I wish I could take them on the couch to really spend a lot of time but I have cats so I’m nervous about that. I can sit with them on the bed in the extra room which I usually do.
I’ve read about people putting the food in their laps so they associate you with food and that helps? But I always left them with food 24/7 when they are small, maybe I should change that?

Yeah, if you take food out at night (they don't eat at night anyway) and then put it in in the morning they might learn that you are the food monster, lol, and that you give them good stuff. I always hold mine on the couch. Can you maybe lock your cats up or something in a different room? I hold several at a time for a while, and then I take them somewhere they've never been before and with no other people around, and set one of them down. Then I walk away. When you walk away, don't look back, but make a bunch of nice sounds and call it. The one will probably come running after you. They also love treats. Mine never loved peas, but others say they do. Mine really just love fresh grass. Oh, get them used to tons of foods as babies because they usually become food snobs as adults. Make sure you offer chick grit free choice though. I liked putting my only little gosling in my, um, shirt. Lol. I think that honestly really helped though. Skin to skin contact is really helpful in the bonding process I think. I carried my little gosling around in there all the time. If you have multiples though I bet you could hold one for like 20 minutes or so and then switch. I would hold as many as possible at a time for about 15 minutes and then switch. Once they will follow you pretty good, take out one gosling at a time and set it down behind you. Walk a small lap with it, and then put another one down and get them both following you. Then put down another, etc. until they're all following you. Then go walk all around with them. You can take them outside for a few minutes too if it's above 45 degrees. I always let mine swim for a couple minutes too and then towel dry them afterwards. That's all I can think of right now. Let me know if you have any more questions. 😉
