i bought 3 quails about two week ago from various feed stores. 2 roos and 1 hen.
recently the roos started fighting so feeling sorry for the weaker one my father separated them into another cage.
when he did that i guess he didn't latch the original cage back well....
when i went to throw out the trash i went to check to make sure they have enough water and feed for the night...and the door for the coop was WIDE open
panicking i flashed my light inside but the two quails were no where to be seen...and my husky ran into her house looking guilty i yelled to get my dad to come out of the house. while i was waiting i noticed my 2.5 toy maltese (a house dog that followed me out) was biting something on the grass. it being dark i thought she was chewing on one of my husky's chew toys which i didn't like her doing.
i reached down and took it from her and to my disgust it was wet and soggy.
i flashed my flashlight on my hand to see BRIGHT RED flesh laced with some feather with some white bone sticking out and some organs hanging down.
it was part of one of my quails. i ended up dropping it in shock which my maltese grabbed up immediately and ran away. (i always thought smaller dogs did not eat raw meat my chihuahua mix who was also there wouldn't even go near the stuff)
i spent almost an hour looking for my other quail that i hoping got away and was alive hiding somewhere (although i highly doubted it).
but for the life of me i could not find any parts of the bird at all. the only thing i could figure was that my husky ate the whole thing without leaving anything behind or that she buried it.
the hen was just at the age where she should've started to lay eggs soon too.
i'm so sad about my poor quails. they must've died so ....
there was also a trail of blood leading from the coop to the area in the grass.....
sigh..
and then..i get back home ...
and look at my maltese..
she had blood all over her front paws and mouth...
GROSSS!
sheesh...she looks like such a princess too..
sigh...
raising a husky near birds was never a good idea...sigh...
now i only have one male coturnix quail left...the one that had been bullied and separated ended up being saved.
i wonder if he's thinking.....karma....
i guess i'll add a picture of my maltese...if you can imagine her with blood all over her ....cause i sure can't even though i saw it
on the left....that's not my husky btw...
