A fox got into my duck run last night and took my two remaining ducks after fatally wounding my other duck around three weeks ago. we loved them very much and I am looking to bring in three baby ancona ducklings. We have a coop and are working on building a more secure run and housing unit. Located in West Chester, Pa

Sorry, you lost your ducks but before you jump off that curb again with new ones please fix your coop and run so you don't have this happen again. I know it is heartbreaking.

There are tons of ideas about building them right on byc so you should have most of the information you need. Any other questions just ask!

Learn, and live by these words: Ruger 10/22.
eliminate the problem, then replace the ducks.

You know that's a good idea too. Always be ready to protect our animals. But Wildlife are only doing what comes natural to them. They are going to prey on an easy target and what could be easier than ducks inside an unsecure run or coop? It's not the Foxes fault they were able to get in and kill these ducks, It's because the ducks need better security. There is lots of information on here about making your coop and run secure like Fort Knox so we don't lose our birds to a hungry fox or raccoon Looking to feed it's young. And OP always remember Hardware cloth is the best we can get for our runs and coops if done right top bottom and sides we can rest that they are protected. Might find some good information here.

We have had the same run and coop for three years, but there must have been a newly spotted weakness. I am currently fixing a new coop and run, but wanted to know if there were any breeders around here. We used hardware cloth and again it worked for three years, so please don't think we neglected our ducks. I'm not blaming the fox, or rather I'm not unaccustomed to this and I didn't say that I didn't know the perils of wildlife. I love wildlife and its a part of life, I'm just looking to move on and since they would be ducklings they would live inside while we finish the new coop and run. @DuckyDonna @Stoney Meadow Maple and @Miss Lydia

I am so sorry this is happening to you and the poor ducks!! I agree, make sure to predator proof the coop/run but it seems like you are ahead of the game!! Keep up the good work mamma- I am sorry for you losses.
