I Just Realized That Family Is NOT as Important as Friendship :(

Thanks sooo much! I wish I could fill everyone's glass! My best friend from Kindergarten should have been my maid of honor. I mean, I love my cousin, and we have shared many good times, but I should have went with my gut rather than listen to my mother. We are a large Italian family, and from my grandmother to my mother, family beats all! I picked who "I" wanted to be Godparents for my other 2 children and they see my kids so much more! Lets see what happens when "D" has children. I am sure "M" will be Godmother. Then my mother would have nothing to say.

I understand where you are coming from.

However, I have twin sisters (NOT MY twin, they are younger then me) and while they were in my wedding as bridesmaids, they weren't the MOH. I'm not that close to any of my cousins.

I have friends, whose kids call me aunt. I go to ALL the birthdays, even though I don't have any children of my own. My friends' siblings rarely show up to their own nephew's birthdays.

My friends and I often say that our friends are the family we have chosen for ourselves.

There is always family, and to some people that means a lot but, to the others, it doesn't. I've learned to be close to the people who want to be close and appreciate that.

If that makes sense.

Good Grief, Girl! I may just have to drive the ten miles to the liquor store so I can have a glass of wine with you!

YESSSSSS it does....

on topic...lol (jk)
i hear ya there is more then one reason why i can honestly say that i only have a handful of what i would call friends and none of them include any of my family members...my sister, cousins ect...

but you cant compare my family here...we are what some might call dysfunctional...lol

when i got married there was 20 ppl there including the wedding party..

when i graduate college in the fall NO ONE is going thats cause i am not telling anyone...i dont want to hear form anyone..."its about time"...dont you think 35 is a little late to be graduating?...."boy we are surprised you finally decided to finish something and make something out of yr life"

but my friends on the other hand have been the best!..when it was exam time they would come over and cook meals for my kids and babysit so i was alone and in the quiet so i could study

That makes alot of sense!! My best friend has twin boys and we are very close. Her boys call me aunt etc.. To me it's an honor, that someone feels that close to me. They will be at my DD's Communion.. That's all that matters! Oh, and they have to travel over an hour for the church and party afterwards! Thats "family" !!
