I just set 42 TJs Fertile Eggs! >>>>>Final Count 32!!!!

Oh definitely, I would have rather tried a larger group of both. But alas, I was only allowed 20 eggs.

But it was definitely something interesting to try, and the results were interesting as well.

OK folks, back to the topic at hand

I bought 48 Trader Joe's Fertile Eggs.

I candled 48 before I set them in the incubator to look at the air space and 46 were acceptable (as far as I know

Ummm, 2 air spaces were clearly in the wrong location.)

I set the 42 eggs on Jan 5th.

Now.... drum roll please....

I candled all 42 eggs today. One was infertile. 40 eggs have amazing veins growing. One looked like there is a blood ring. I took out the infertile one and the one that clearly was lacking in the veins...

So I have 40 eggs in the bator with AMAZING VASCULAR STRUCTURES GROWING... One is still questionable.

All I could say was, "OH MY GOD!!!" I never dreamed I would have so many starters!!! Amazing!

I cracked the two eggs I took out and I think I was right about the blood ring but the other was obviously infertile.

Well so much for fertility being destroyed by refrigeration. I would not have beleived 90% develpment on refrigerated shipped eggs. Wow. Good luck

I think all of my shipped eggs will travel ground from here on in.

correct me if I am wrong and this is just a curiosity. I think the generation that your eggs come from are the Hyline 36, if they are a hybrid you will get something different than that????

41 out of 42 eggs were fertile!! That is a whopping 97.6% fertility rate for refrigerated eggs!!! It's the math teacher in me that compels me to whip out that calculator.

Amazing! I can't get over it!

But there are still 15 days to go... but right now I am thrilled.

I don't know what I am going to end up with... I don't particularly care as long as they are not high strung. High strung chickens really really suck.

Someone with know-how please tell me how genetics and breeding hybrids works.... I am a math teacher. I don't understand how breeding works (yet
