Alice, don't worry too much. My first hatch was a complete accident. My 7 year old daughter was caring for our neighbors chickens while they were away, and was told she could keep all the eggs she collected. ( to eat) I had an old styrofoam incubator, originally bought to hatch bearded dragon eggs, just sitting in my attic collecting dust. My daughter begged me to get it down so we can try to hatch the eggs. I said yes, not thinking they would ever hatch. We plugged it in, put a few eggs in it, walked away. Over the next few days we kept adding more eggs, till we reached 12. About two weeks later, I finally decided to do some research on the computer about hatching chicken eggs. We were doing everything wrong. There was no thermometer, so we never knew the temperature. No water. The eggs were never turned...........We hatched six!! Then the chicken obsession began.Hello
I sat eggs on the 13th too....I was nervous to tell anyone as it is my first hatch and I am afraid it is all going to go wrong. I worry constantly about those eggs!!! I have 18 buckeye eggs and 5 ameraucana. All were shipped to me and hopefully I will get at least a few. I didn't know this was going to be so hard![]()
