I just set eggs this morning 3-13-12 Has anyone else?

Will be setting eggs on sunday, this will be a first for me and it will be in a cheap incubator that my daughter bought for me.....hoping for a few to hatch on easter when all the grandkids will be here..

I just started 5 red sex links and 4 cochin eggs yesterday. I have 5 under a broody from the 10th and 7 in my Brinsea mini advance also on the 10th. How long do you hold shipped eggs before you put them in the incubator? I just got 7 Brahma eggs in the mail at 10am this morning and am wondering if I can put them in today so they are only a day behind??

Tinsawarr.....That will be sooo cute to have Little Fuzzy buts for the kids on easter....I hope they hatch a day before for you so they can be nice and fluffy and they can hold them!!!!! Although it could be fun and exciting for them to watch them hatch too!

audrey02026 On these shipped eggs, I set them in less than 24 hours. I got them in the afternoon, then set them by 5:45am the following day. This is my second set of shipped eggs. The first set I ever bought, I set immediately. From what I've read, your supposed to wait.

Thanks I got them at about 10am I just went home and the lady sent me 12 instead of six....I think I'll set them in the morning before work that gives them almost 24 hours.

Hello

I sat eggs on the 13th too....I was nervous to tell anyone as it is my first hatch and I am afraid it is all going to go wrong. I worry constantly about those eggs

Thanks for listening.

Just wait until you get your first pip....makes it all worth it! I'm so addicted. I really need a Chickens Anonymous. I swear my husband was gonna flip when he saw that i got my order and the woman sent me 12 eggs instead of 6....then I had to tell him I have three more shipments comming for a total of 19 more without extras.....

Alice, don't worry too much. My first hatch was a complete accident. My 7 year old daughter was caring for our neighbors chickens while they were away, and was told she could keep all the eggs she collected. ( to eat) I had an old styrofoam incubator, originally bought to hatch bearded dragon eggs, just sitting in my attic collecting dust. My daughter begged me to get it down so we can try to hatch the eggs. I said yes, not thinking they would ever hatch. We plugged it in, put a few eggs in it, walked away. Over the next few days we kept adding more eggs, till we reached 12. About two weeks later, I finally decided to do some research on the computer about hatching chicken eggs. We were doing everything wrong. There was no thermometer, so we never knew the temperature. No water. The eggs were never turned...........We hatched six!! Then the chicken obsession began.

Thanks for the confidence boost. I think this is going to be the longest 21 days of my life. My husband walked into the dining room and asked me what I was doing. I told him that I was watching the incubator. He told me I was nuts:) I will be glad when I am a "pro" at this:)

One of my hens just hatched the cutest little speckled sussex chick. It is almost two weeks old and so cute. The hens sure are good at what they do.
