Yes find one of their extra favorite treats that is easy to hold in your hand and feed it each hen while you are holding her. That way they will associate the best treat of all with being held.

I sit in a chair in the yard when they are free ranging I let them come to me and if they get in my lap they get a treat. My husband sat out with me (first time for him) and they got in his lap ... he was amazed! and we each hand fed many of them I like for them to come to me and let me rub their bellys.

if anyone wants to raise their own mealworms as treats its very easy. just take an old aquarium or rubbermaid. fill it with stale cereal, preferably wheat bran and add a piece of fruit chopped up. purchase a container of worms from the store and in no time you'll have the worms in a cacoon like shell and a little after that they will turn into little black beatles. the beatles will lay more eggs and give you a ton of more worms. to clean just dump everything trough a screen and all the small bits that fall trough can be composted. make sure to keep a small piece of fruit at all times because its their only source of water.

p.s. do this in a shed or garage because it can start to stink a bit
