My 1 out of 4 goose eggs that made it to lockdown has pipped the aircell 2 days ago.. and has done nothing else. I found out why today. I opened the aircell end to see whats going on and his beak is crooked, The top part is straight cept the side next to the nose is missing so it looks like he only has 1 hole for a nose.. and the bottom is pointing a different direction. I dont know what to do, I know he cant hatch by himself like that. Is there ANYONE who's raised something with a really bad case of cross beak? or should I just cull him?

I cant tell if theres anything else wrong with him. I only got both parts of his beak out because the bottom part was still in the membrane and top was out.

I'm not sure if this will be any help to you, but I've seen pictures of chicks with squinty beaks that have had 'orthopaedic' treatment to straighten their beaks up. Like, superglue and a matchstick on one side to make the beak go straight. Also, I have an adult male goose who caught his beak in a wire mesh fence and tore a bit off it - trying to attack our dogs in their run, LOL! We were so worried he wouldn't be able to eat properly and we'd have to cull him, but two years later he's doing fine. His beak still looks terrible, but it doesn't seem to affect him that much...

I'd say maybe let this one hatch and see how it does. Not sure what other people would think though...

Thanks, I was thinking about doing that but now im not so sure.. I took another look at him and he has veins across him that are the size of a wire small (alot thicker then normal) looks like a alot of yolk underneath him to, and with all that im not even sure if he even has any eyes.. I dont see any in the spot there suppose to be unless their deformed somewhere else to..

He's gone. gonna open shell and see what else is deformed, I may take a pic but idk, he died because he broke one of his big veins and his shell pretty much became a blood filled cup

I'm so sorry.

As sad as it is, it was probably better. I have two crossbeak girls, but both have nostrils and are able to eat normally. I'm of the opinion that critters with severe external deformities often have internal ones that make for a short life.
