I just watched someone kiss one of my birds, repeatedly.

Hey, I kiss animals myself.  Usually on the head or muzzle (not near nose) - you know dry places.  Not chickens because they would probably peck my eyes out, and not cats because they would probably slash me - okay guess it's mainly dogs, puppies that I kiss.  The neighbor's dog  has as soft as velvet muzzle & ears.  I have to hang on to her collar though because she tends to pop up like a jack-in-the box  and could do real damage.

Lol that's the only one I DON'T smooch, my mom's Aussie... He bounces up at my face in overexcitement if he thinks I'm coming in for a smooch...darn near gives me a bloody nose, lol

A person who I'm baby sitting* a pair of goats for and is, in outwards appearances, an adult in complete possession of their mental faculties, kissed my BR pullet, Jelly Bean, several times on the neck and head. Jelly Bean has been outside, free ranging with the flock, rolling on the ground and just being a normal chicken.

ok, I'm with you. I cringe at dogs that lick, and people kissing most critters. Cat mouths are nasty, and they wipe their spit all over themselves. Dogs eat all sorts of super nasty stuff. Chickens/birds have a few zoonotic diseases I would prefer to skip, thanks. Lizards and reptiles as well.
Just didn't want you to feel too alone!

Lol I'm pretty sure my DH was jealous of our new roo... I still carry him around and smooch him... Really anyone i can catch gets a snuggle lol...

I'm sorry lol, but the salmonella thing... Yeah wash your hands before eating, don't kiss the wrong end lol... It's fine. I'm positivevive been accidentally vaccinated for Bangs and scours, dipped for ticks, been exposed to anthrax, tapeworms, ascarids, bots, leeches, west Nile, and avian flu lol....

On second thought...

I better go wash my hands.

Laughing hard again! Right? Don't kiss the wrong end, don't bite your nails!

It doesn't matter if you wash your hands if you're applying the critter germs directly to your mouth.

Ok yeah lol, I draw the line at cats...ew cats are disgusting lol, but I guess I'm immune to sheep, cattle, dog, chicken, guinea pig, and reptile germs....especially toads lol... Oh my mom used to have a conniption with me kissing the toads... I still do ;)

*horses! I used to totally snuggle muzzles with my gelding <3

Find it interesting.. I've had E. Coli.... Caught it when I cut myself with a knife while washing dishes when I worked in a deli.... So much for washing my hands lol :p

How? E Coli isn't something you catch via a wound..

I have no problem with horses, although even then I'm not kissing mouths.
NEVER will you find me kissing a toad. BIG deep line in the sand there...
You're not immune to the germs, just to the ick factor. The last three are salmonella risks,

I suppose it's remotely possible, however I find it a little difficult, given that you were apparently actively using detergent and hot water. (I work with e.coli to a limited extent)
Also? Euw. That deli had issues if there was ecoli on their knives.

Actually, I ALWAYS give my 29 chickens and 9 ducks goodnight kisses when I shut them in the coop for the night. Much to a lot of peoples' horror, I have gotten too close to a couple of my ornery chickens while I was talking to them, and they bit my teeth like a snake striking. I simply couldn't stop them! I'm much more concerned about human germs, such as those in public bathrooms and on door handles than those on a chicken. Also, I've never once been sick from them even though it just so happens that I kiss them several times a day.

Salmonella IS a human germ, in that it affects people and that it is found on doorhandles etc. Same same. You have never had diarrhea/cramps etc? Mostly, episodes of digestive upset are never pinpointed as to source cuz mostly people just spend a day or two feeling like crap and carry on, and are never diagnosed as to what specifically caused the illness.

Anyway....do what you do, since you're gonna do it anyway.
