It's monsoon season here, so every night we have an overabundance of toxic toads everywhere... including my backyard!

This is what we came home to last night:

Apparently the shiny end of the leash looked delicious to Senior Toad. We tried to delicately extract it (remember-- very toxic!) and it wasn't going to happen, so DH cut the leash, Toadie swallowed the last bit, and hopped off.

aaaaa, YUCK!

We have Leopard frogs and toads but nothing toxic!

Well, if you see red toad crap in the yard you know where it came from!!

Well so much for taking the dog for a walk!!!
Isn't there some research facility that needs them.....at that rate your dog chew, plastic tote, the pot, the red towel, your shoe (possibly with your foot in it), and everything else in the photos will be gone by sun up!
A Cryptonite chamber held Superman maby these toads....better yet,
Grab a Cross and some Holy Water!
LOL

Good Luck!

We had a 4 month old puppy that ate a toad. The puppy died. DH says the toads are covered in a poisonous slime.

These are what used to be called 'Colorado river toads' they're now called 'Sonoran Desert Toads' I believe. I've grown up with them-- that's how I know these are them and toxic...

The toads carry a poison gland around their cheeks and, yes, they can kill dogs and anything else that puts them in their mouths. They also are known for eating just about ANYTHING

They're an annual occurrence here, when we get our summer monsoon rains. The rest of the year they spend hibernating far underground to keep cool.

In some places some people of questionable intelligence will lick them for hallucinations. Some die from it (VERY toxic!)

Are those the same as Bufo Toads? We have them here in South Florida. There were lots & lots of them in Miami, but when we first moved to West Palm Beach 6 years ago there weren't as many. Sadly, they seem to be on the increase now here.

They are attracted to dog food, so perhaps you shouldn't keep those dishes out at night. I don't know if they would bother poultry, my birds seem to ignore them. But they can be dangerous to dogs if they bite them & get the poison in their mouths. A small dog who bites a big toad could even die.

My son always disliked them because they were slow to get out of his way at night & he would accidently step on or kick them and get unpleasantly startled.
