Chirping
I grew up on a farm, so yes, I know better but now I'm in a city and have time.
So I have a 4 week old chick. It ALMOST made it to the compost but it's plucky one. It started pipping but the humidity in the incubator was off, so it didn't hatch. I naturally assumed it had shrink wrapped and died. Fast forward 72 hours later give or take, I pick up the incubator to dump and clean the unhatched eggs.... It starts cheeping at me, well more screaming but any way. WHAT THE HECK. So my husband and I look at each other and are like well... lets see. We assume the pipped eggs that we knew about are dead, so we (not gently) crack those ones to check first. Out comes this shreaking, matted, contorted chick.
I'm like well... let's give it a chance and popped it back into the incubator. checked on it a few hours later... still can't really stand but alive. So I move it to a bigger brooder box and go to sleep. Next morning STILL ALIVE, not super steady on it's feet. So I cook it up some egg. It has a few bites and takes a nap, day goes on like that. The next morning its STILL alive, but now its "yelling" alot, so I'm thinking if it's going to survive I better clean off all the shrink wrapped goo, it probably hurts. So a extensive spa with q-tips and blut ended tweezers later it's clean and ready for more food. So egg, mixed with yogurt it is. Now this chick is starving and eats a ton. The next day we moved it into the brooder with the other (now a week older chicks). They got on fine and I thought all was good.
Fast forward 3.5 weeks. Suddenly this chick can't walk, and one leg is not responding neurologically normal. I'm thinking that's what you get for not culling. So I do some research (thanks forum) and decide to try some vitamin supplementation. GUESS WHAT!!! It worked. It's up an running again.
Any way after my long story.... any guesses on sex? Better be a pullet after all this!
