I know I’m probably going to upset some ppl, but I’m genuinely confused..

Well to be fair, raccoons have thumbs! They’re sneaky little things! I haven’t encountered any with my flock (knock on wood) but I heard they just take eggs and chickens heads…uh bring on the locks and latches!! Your hubby sounds hilarious!
Sneaky, for sure. Thumbs, no. At least, not opposable thumbs. But the do have five dexterous fingers on each hand. I’ve watched one of raccoons eating cat food and she picks it up between her two hands held flat.

“However, they do have five long, flexible fingers on each paw, which, along with their sensitive paws, allow them to manipulate objects with great dexterity. They can't grasp objects with one hand like humans, but they can use both forepaws together to pick up and manipulate items with impressive skill”. That’s good enough for me! Not to mention those sharp looking teeth. I will reiterate bring on the locks and latches! (Kinda disappointed I was lied to as kid by all those cartoons showing raccoons with thumbs).

Oh absolutely, I agree. They are crafty little buggers, for sure.

Flimsy. Yes, I bought a TSC coop, I’m not proud of that.
I have more chickens than you do, so I have a very large coop. But I also have a TSC coop. It fits 6 standard hens! Not! There’s no way my big butted hens can fit in that. But I do love it for my littles. It’s perfect for my bantam polishes. Or a rooster that’s acting a fool. I’d totally buy another one.

I have the largest one they sell, “Fits 10-15 Chickens!” Four, it fits 4.

LOL that’s so accurate. And mine has 3 “nesting boxes”. Not one of my standard hens can fit her bulbous butt in there.
Mine has 3 nesting boxes too (they do all fit in, and of course only use one).
This is what they do on cold GA nights:
