I know I'm a chicken, but that's about it!

A friend of a friend gave us some eggs to hatch. This one came out of a white-ish egg. Any clue as to what this now 4-week-old could be? Breed or gender?

At 4 weeks my guess would be girl, based on her stance and comb. Time will tell, though. As for breed I was going to say Black Giant, but if it came out of a whitish egg I'm not sure. Do you know what kind of chickens and roosters your friend has?

Unfortunately, I have no idea what kind of chickens my friend's friend had. She gave us white eggs, blue/green eggs, brown eggs, a tiny bantam egg...That's why it's such a mystery! Well, it might be a mystery anyway...I'm still only a month in owning these babies and some older teenage chickens!

The comb. Is this a pea comb? I'm clueless on the subject.

yes thats a pea comb and it being black and having yellow feet bottoms, leads me to say that its a sumatra

Ew, I just looked up Sumatras and they don't sound that great. We're not into "showing" or anything like that. Just pets that lay eggs! LOL! Is there anything else it could be?

I dont show my sumatras either. One of mine loves to be petted and loves to take a shower in the hose as I fill their waters. They lay a light cream to white eggs

Well that doesn't sound so bad. Is there anything you can tell about gender? Curious, is your chicken tethered?
