I know this bird is young I am just kind of curious what kind of chick it could be. S/he has chipmunk coloration. The only thing I know is she came from a pen labled, "Straight Run Heavy Breeds" What are the breeds that carry this coloration?, please. I will get more pictures today when I go out to the garage and am able to take them to the yard.

I know it is normal for chickens to have a pecking order. Since this is my first flock since childhood. Do chicks hatched, immediately assert their dominance. S/he has been in control since day one. S/he is also the biggest and heaviest of all the chicks. Introduction of new chicks at week 2 produced the same behavior as she ran right over and asserted dominance. 1 chick decided to fight back and was quickly and firmly put under control.
Is this an indication that she is a he???

It could just be a dominant pullet-chick. Where'd you order from?

She was at Runnings ... there was an elderly farmer woman there who was picking chicks from the heavy breed brooder we began to talk. She was sorting chicks looking for hens. I let her pick three from that bin for me. She said she was looking for new hens because her hens were "layed out" and ready for the stew pot. lol except her "Betti" "Nobody gonna eat her, Betti!" She said she couldn't guarantee it but she's usually 90% right on the money.

It is too early to determine gender acurately. As for breed, she may be an Easter Egger. Does she have feathered feet?

Too bad she doesn't have muffs and a beard to go with her gray/green feet.

I love EE's. I just got a mix this year to try different breeds. Eventually, I hope to have Favrolles, I am seriously leaning towards them and Dominiques.
Great plans! I've always wanted Faverolles.
