I lost a baby ducky to an ant bite, new pics page 4 of ants

One of my baby duckies was chasing the momma and the others and stumbling and falling and I thought it might have a sticker in it's foot because they were going through a patch of goat-head stickers. I picked it up and it had one of those huge black and red ants that bit me on it's leg and I had a hard time pulling it off. I put Benadryl on it to try and help it, but it only took about 10 minutes and the little guy seized and died in my hand. With the rain we've been having the ants come back. We poisoned them and they disappeared, but as soon as it rains they are back.

So sorry about your duck. I remember your post about your own bite; got so tickled at how your MD reacted when she saw it. We have an ant that fits that description around here, which they say has a bad bite, but they are rarely seen. Been wondering if they are the same species.

Thanks, I felt so bad for the little guy. As much as that bite hurt me, I can only imagine what it must have felt like to something so tiny.

Was it what I call a Crash Helmet Ant? The ones that make the gravel hills, with red bodies and big black heads?

Well crap, now i'm scared! Those crash helmet ants are bad enough! Have you been using Amdro?

I'm not familiar with a Bull Ant. My brother used Amdro on the 5 yes 5 nests we found but they seem to die but as soon as it rains or I water they reform either right where they were or within 10 feet of the old nest. I've never had such a bad ant problem in my yard.

I'm not sure how to describe a Bull Ant....I remember them from when i lived in Florida. Nasty things! 10 x worse than a red ant bite (to me anyways..

). THey are big ants (maybe carpenter ant size)..and have a black abdomen and a red head.. And they give a nasty painful bite. Maybe someone from Florida will know what i am trying to describe..we always called them Bull Ants though.
