I have four levels of chickens right now. On my 3rd level (3-4 ) weeks, I lost a chick to a hawk today. I have them in an enclosed, in an open barn area and the hawk came down and tried to eat a chick in the pen. I'd been out there an hour before. Saw the hawk twice and didn't think it could get to the chicks... Now I know better. They are covered much better, with three layers of protection. Sad, but wiser.

Oh dear, I am so sorry about your poor little chickie!

That is horrible! You wouldn't think they would be so brave to come around where there are people. From now on it will have to look elsewhere for something to eat!!

I thought they were WELL protected. I had seen it once, but didn't think it was after the chicks. They are in a very well thought out coop. The hawk won't survive long. And I hate that. We will do what has to be and won't have the problem anymore. It just saddened me on a great day.
