I went out and fed up this morning, in a hurry because I had an appointment to go to. Well, when I came home one of my EE hens was dead. When I removed her and inspected her, then it looked like she had a prolapsed vent and the others had pecked her. I feel so bad. If I hadn't been in such a hurry this morning, then I might have noticed it and could have put her in isolation.

This is the third hen that I have lost in the past month and a half. All from different reasons, but this is heartbreaking.

What causes a prolapsed vent? I know that it is too late for that hen, but maybe I will be able to notice any symptoms for future reference.

Thanks,
Dorothy

sorry-I don't have an answer-I would expect calcium ,age of chicken, genetics and nutrition all play a part.sorry for your losses

Thanks priszilla. She wasn't but approximately a year old and she gets the same as all of the other hens.
