I lost Chloe today...

Interesting... seeing since I'm now learning that even though I bought them from one person, that one person bought them from another person.
And thank you, New Chickie... she really was pretty. She had the nicest red, but all that smut kept her from being a breeding hen.

If Chole did have a calcium deficiency then you might want to try this on the rest of your birds periodically. I guess you might could pick this up at your feedstore. Check and see. It is water dissolvable minerals and electrolytes in a little plastic bag. I usually mix a teaspoon to a gallon of water. Electrolytes are mineral salts and they are essential to maintain homeostasis (cellular activity in the body), they consist of sodium, potassium, and calcium. So, if Chole and the other one that died had a calcium deficiency then maybe the electrolytes dissolved in the rest of the chickens water will add the calcium they need. Good luck, Johnny

I just want to give everyone here a big THANK YOU for helping me out and grieving with me. My husband is upset, too, but people at work think I'm nuts for crying over "just a chicken".

I am going to the feed store and buying oyster shells, then I'm off to the store for the apple vinegar.

Carrie Brown you have my deepest sympathies. The ppl at work just don't understand, but we all do!Well this thread has been very informative...I had one of my girls die in much the same way with those sypmtoms. I am on well water and we live in a place that is called "the Limestone City". We only use bottled water for ourselves. I lost Missey two years ago and none of my others are showing the signs that she did. I wonder if I should be giving them bottled as well? Is that Avian charge stuff what you mean when you talk about adding to the water? I may have to see if we can get that here in canada.

Again, my dear, my condolances. She was a beautiful bird.
