I lost my Job

So sorry.

I'm sorry!! That is sad news..I work in a travel plaza and make a little better than minimum but I have benefits... It's not my most favorite job but it seems no one else wants jobs like these there is a lot of turnaround. I'd rather be a farmer though..

The job market in Illinois sucks also. I have cooked for almost 20 years and the sad part is this, I work for a small place now as executive chef my friend is a assistant manager at MCDonalds and makes more then me with full benifits UGGGGG I just can't lower myself to work there.
I hope you find a job soon.

I'm so sorry. The company I work for has "offshored" jobs to India, Mexico and Brazil. I'm trying to follow the advice my dad gave me many years ago, when I was working for idiots: Keep your head down, and take the money.

Not saying that I work for idiots NOW, of course . . .

This economy is GREAT and there are jobs everywhere!! There are so many jobs here I just couldn't decide which one I wanted so I just finally decided I don't want to work anymore...and then I woke up

SERIOUSLY though, Tennessee is the same as all above mentioned states, there is nothing. I am now just trying to create my own economy by doing things those that have the few precious jobs don't want to do. It's what's left

It's not stable, but it's odd jobs for cash, and it has helped us through 5 months so far of joblessness. Unemployment is a joke when you have kids...or even a dog..lol! OP hang in there and try to pick up a few jobs here and there for cash until you find stable work. I hope you have a quick turn around!!

What government jobs are increasing?

I work for the university and they have been cutting jobs for months. On top of the unpaid furlough we had to take last year which cost us two weeks' salary.

My husband worked for the department of ag...until the Monday before Christmas. They shut down his whole division in Phoenix. And because everybody who was still employed took vacation between Christmas and New Years, he couldn't get any answer about what he was supposed to do about insurance, unemployment etc.

Unemployment, when he finally starts getting it is going to be $240 a week minus taxes. And he won't start getting it until March...he doesn't "qualify" because they paid him his unused vacation after they fired him, and since they paid it lump sum they took extra taxes out. And because they paid him the lump sum on last year's paycheck, it is going to hurt us at tax time.

And they wonder why people can't make their house payments...

Started working at my job in 2007...great pay and benefits...As a single mom, I thought everything would be great from there on out....RIGHT! Found out in December, my department will be laying off 25 people beginning February. Guess who is 23rd??? So I am now trying to put money back and working odd jobs on my days off to put that money back. I bought a new vehicle (nothing fancy and was WELLLL within my budget) in 2008 (plus my truck gave out on me, had to find something else)....now kinda wishing I had gone with a used car that I could have paid cash for. I have a feeling if I get laid off, I will end up losing my vehicle and it is all I have right now to get anywhere. I live in a very rural area.

Good luck to everyone out there that is job hunting. I'm really hoping and praying this economy gets better soon.

on a side note: GM just HAD to get rid of the one brand that has really proven itself and was American.....Saturn. I love my Saturn and wish I had gotten it sooner.
