yeah chick starter would be VERY nice and much much cheaper.
You may need to mix scratch with the egg maker they sell. thats what i did until i found trip-l-duty

I buy my horse grain at a local family owned feed store. And even the grain itself is made in state!
Chicken feed I get from TSC, if I am up that way and need it. If I need it and are not heading north I head to Agway.

I only buy my jeans from WalMart and occasionally medicines and cleaners. I will not buy food for myself or my animals from them. IN fact if I could find jeans at another store that fit me the way I like. I wouldnt go near WM with a 10 ft pole.

I buy my Oakhurst Dairy milk from them (and am really unhappy with Oakhurst for their sales policies, but that's another rant), and specific things that I know are cheapest there, like Purina Naturals dry cat food and litter liners. I don't do 'grocery shopping' there. Most of my food is purchased locally, from a locally owned health food store and Trader Joe's, every other week I stock up on staples at Market Basket. I try to buy anything and everything I can from someone other than Walmart, but money's tight here, too, so I have to stretch my dollars as far as I can. I've heard bad things about the chicken food, that I buy from local grain dealers. It's not easy to go to all these places, but I do want to purchase as much as I can from small, local businesses.

I was at Wal-Mart today, and saw that they sell Chicken Feed by me too! They sold a few different varieties, and one was for egg layers. I thought this was neat, I’ve never noticed it before. I also found that they sell Hog, Cow, Pig, every type of horse product imaginable, Poultry, Etc. but NO duck, or duckling feed!! I so loved Wal-Mart too for about 5 seconds until I realized they are prejudice against ducks! I’m not sure how much duck feed runs at, but the 40 lb bags were only $8.50 too! So not cool.

No one told me that the bags were 40 pounds, and easy to get off the fully stocked shelf, but difficult to get back on! You think my parents, or the stocker would have helped. No, me and my butt had to do all the work ourselves. My parents were too busy looking at puffer fish. LoL.
