I made a HORRIBLE mistake ordering from a hatchery! (Graphic Photos)

They were both pullets of breeds I did order. There were like 10 different breeds in the order lol so one extra of two of them. I thought it was nice. I'm sure they figured w 50 birds I wouldn't mind two more of something we already wanted. lol
Oh gotcha. I must have read your post wrong. Whew good to know just in case I ever order from them!

First time we ever got extras! This is the 4th order we've placed with them. I'm guessing they had so many problems earlier this year that they started putting in an extra one to make sure order numbers were fulfilled.

I also noticed they drove the birds to St. Paul, MN this time (about 3 hours from the hatchery), instead of the local airport in Iowa. I'm guessing there are more direct flights in MN so it saves the chicks a day of travel. Sure seems like the hatcheries are doing the best they can to adapt and help these babies arrive safely.

I'm sorry to hear they are being like this. I would honestly try a different hatchery, I recommend Meyer Hatchery, I've never had a problem with birds dying in shipping, or them getting the gender wrong.
I have also been really happy with Meyer. They were great. I did lose one with a FTT, but it was a day after, and it was just weird from the start (plus, I think shipping is just generally hard, and 1 should be kinda expected at least). My grandpa always ordered through Cackle and no issues, he would have been furious (he orders hundreds of meat birds at a time)...

Wow this is just devistating, I would be so upset 😭

I hope not...it will hurt many small farmers and backyard chicken keepers to do this, not to mention the hatchery family businesses that have been around for many years. It's also going to cause some of the more rare breeds to go extinct if sources are even more difficult to come by...Instead I wish they'd fix the regulations and require the USPS to do a better job, or require poultry to be shipped overnight.
