I made a new cage for my buttons today!

It's much bigger and better than the last one, they seem happy in it too

Its half wood based, half wire base (the wire is flush with the ground so no little legs dropping through) & One end will be covered in shade cloth (the whole thing will be covered in plastic panelling in wet weather)
....Dont laugh but the whole wire part is held together with a ZILLION Zip Ties! lol the base is screwed together though

Currently in residence are Spunk, Stubs, Solo & Silver Flash

Inside for Button comfort:
3x Water dishes
2x Feeders + Treats dish
1x Sandpit + Rocks for easier access
4x Nest box/hidey holes

and coming soon.. 5x Small grass sprouting tubs that will be spread around the cage for hiding & playing in (the grass just hasn't grown enough yet)

Any improvements or suggestions anyone can think of?

Looks great!! And we all use wire ties!

My concern would be their little feet on the hardware cloth in the area where it's grassy. Hardware cloth can have some scratchy edges. Do you plan on covering that as well for them?

I think that since they won't be on the wire 24/7 their feet will be fine. They look like they are in quail heaven there! Quite a cute little aviary!

Thanks all, im pretty impressed with myself actually, the last one i built was pretty lop sided lol
The wire so far hasnt been a problem, its got some kind of smooth coating on it, but if i see any scratchy bits i'll definitly be fixing it up before they hurt their lil feet.

Zip ties are everywhere here, we even use them to hold the fairings on on a couple of our motorbikes!

Usualy right next to the Zip Ties is a big roll of Gaffa tape lol

Nice pen,the only thing I would be worried about is when they get spooked they may rip their heads on the wire top.You know how jumpy them little buggers get?

what a cute cage!
remember that since they are on the ground, you will need to worm them regularly, and make sure they don't get damp.
I bet they are loving it in there!
