Both parents do carry the gene, but are not lavender they are black and whiteJust looking at the chick in this photo, it doesn’t appear to be lavender to me. They have more of a gray/purple tint, even as chicks. Do both parents of this chick carry lavender? If not, then it cannot be lavender. Such an adorable baby!
I believe recessive but I'm not 100% sureSuch a cutie! If they are black and white but both carry lavender, then they can have lavender chicks. I still don’t really think that this one is lavender, just based on looks. Pure lav silkies do seem to be lighter than the crosses. I can find a pic of one of my pure lav pure silkie chicks from several months back.
If the white parent is recessive white, then they can be carrying other colors/patterns that are not visible. But if that is the case, then your black parent would also be carrying something else too since black would typically be dominant over a recessive white. Do you know if the white parent is dominant white or recessive?
