Hello!
So, a friend of a friend has this sweet, 5 month old Pekin girl in need of a new home. I may be taking her in tomorrow, but I’m not quite sure what to do..

I know how to introduce ducks with the see-no-touch and all, no problem there. My questions are about quarantine.

- What’s the best way to quarantine a single duck? Mirror? Can she look at my other ducks through a screen?
- How long should she be quarantined for? Weeks? A month??
- Any indicator on when it’s okay to introduce, or will I just need to be safe and wait?

Thanks! :)

I just saw a featured article about that subject recently. but i’m bad I don’t always follow the rules. It depends on who and where I get a duck from. I think it’s something like two weeks and of course mirror and the stuffed animal would help but it is kind of sad isn’t it.
if it’s from a friend that you trust, wouldn’t you know the conditions of her flock, and not have to quarantine more than a day or two?
i might not be helping just giving my thoughts. Best wishes whatever you choose to do. May your duck be happy and healthy along with the rest of your flock forever and ever amen😌

I agree with @Jenbirdee if I know where the duck came from and living conditions just set them up in a dog X pen so they can meet and greet everyone.
Sorry, I should’ve said! I don’t know anything about the living conditions.

This duck had an owner who does not want her anymore, and she has been spotted wandering the neighborhood alone. My friend’s friend has taken her in temporarily while she looked for a new home (my home!).

I figured it’d more than likely be okay, and I agree it’s sad to quarantine, but I’d just hate to unknowingly bring home a sick ducky.

May your duck be happy and healthy along with the rest of your flock forever and ever amen😌
Thank you for the kind wishes :hugs

I’m back home with the sweet baby! :celebrate
If you have to quarantine can you set her up where she can see the flock even if it's a yard away? Just the sight and sound of other ducks should get her through any quarantine.
She will certainly be able to see / hear my other ducks, at least some of the time. I’ll see if I can get it to be all the time.

So, from what I’ve heard, she used to have another ducky friend, but her friend passed away young. She’s been living with humans most of her life, which is very apparent in her behavior. She’s extremely sweet!!! And is trying to dominate over me

Looks fairly healthy, maybe a bit underweight. Clearly dehydrated when I received her, and very stinky!! She is having a bath now. Legs are good. It seems like she had angel wing in both wings at some point, which were decently fixed. Lots of spots on her bill. Gorgeous eyes.. Beautiful voice.
