I might as well vent to. Worst year of my life!!!!!

Oh, I am so sorry that you had such a bad year!

I will be praying that things look up for you in 2008. My year was very disappointing...but I have to count my blessings and keep fighting! I have to keep telling myself that God knows what he's doing...I don't!

Didn't read all the messages.. so sorry if I am repeating someone else here.


Parvo stinks. I hate it. I adopted a pit mix from an animal shelter.. unbeknowst to us, she had it. All of the puppies there did. I watched her die a horrible, slow death for the 6 days I had her. It was AWFUL. I bleached EVERYTHING. I swore off dogs. My sister, trying to be nice, got me a puppy.. and he caught it (stays in the ground for a year). After switching vets, and a bad week, Charlie made it through. He is now nearly 9 years old.

The first vet told me that pits are one of the breeds particularly susceptible to parvo.

Just wanted to pass that on.

Sorry that you've had such an awful year. Next year is bound to be much better.

Thanlk you for the prayers and good vibes. I really appreciate it. I did not know pits get it the most. Thank you for telling me. Cujo was 3 months when he got it. I think dogs ages 1 week to 5 months get it the most but 5 months and up survive it. sandy my moms b/fs dog is 5 months and she survived it. She is a retiver/lab mix. and mollie "purebred black lab" who I kept because she was in the cage behind cujo at the shelter is 4-5 months and she never caught it. We took her to the vet and gave her the stuff as a precaution if she did have it. I am teaching her to duck hunt and pheasant hunt. still trying to get her to be friends with chickens though. She loves to rough play with them

make sure your 2 dogs are vaccinated for Parvo now. If dogs haven't been exposed and incubating the virus already, then vaccine will in almost all cases prevent it. I;m not big on too many vaccines, but that is definitely one that I would recommend.

And make sure that any new dogs, especially puppies are vaccinated for it as well. NOT just 1 vaccination at 6-8 weeks, puppies have to vaccinated up to 4 months of age to develop the correct immunity.


I AM so sorry to hear about everyone's losses this year. And that is such a bummer on the saltwater tank.

They where all vaccinated. we have 3 dogs that where vaccinated in feb way before we adopted the new set. we have 2 that was found on the side of the road in NC who we kept and got vaccinated in feb as well. then I got the black lab vaccinated and the 2 that we rescued with the dogs that had parvo where negative and got there shots. but the one that got vaccinated is a young pit mix and she caught it. She is eating and drinking now. WE had the meds from the chow who passed and she was taking that.

Is the med, Tamiflu? We've used that alot lately at work with the parvo pups.

its amoxi and something else that was prescribed to us. the amoxi smells like bubblegum and the other stuff smelt like oranges. We have read on yahoo that taiflu worked but I would have to go to the vet and beg for a prescription for the dog. instead my mistake sent them to hillside vet which was cheaper and he gave them a new shot that was just put on the market and now they are happy pups
