I must be getting popular with the cops...

I THINK THAT IF YOU WANT TO STRAP YOURSELF DOWN WITH DOZENS OF WEAPONS ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY AND ARE WILLING TO TAKE ALL RESPONSOBILITY FOR THEM AND KNOW HOW TO USE THEM SAFTLY THEN YOU SHOULD! OPPS CAPS, anyway you should be able to do what ever you want and the cop should not have talked down to you. But keep in mind you are obviously going to draw attention to yourself as you already have and may have to deal with it again, it sucks but it's life. You probably frightened the cop a bit too. Once I had all of my guns confiscated even though I had the paperwork just because the cops were not familiar with them and frankly they were scared of them. Took me 3 days to get them back and then a spring was broken because they were obviously dry firing them like mad, ugg.

he was called to her house because someone said she was abusing her dogs...he didnt just drive by and see her dressed up with knives and daggers....he got a animal abuse call on her...thats why he went to her house...because her dingbat neighbor calld the cops on her...

Don't try walking out into the middle of seattle strapped with weapons. Where you live, even if you own it, does make a difference with how you act and what you can do on it. You can legally open carry a gun, but is it socially acceptable where you live? That makes a difference even if it is legal. I live on enough acerage in the middle of the city to shoot things with a pellet rifle, butcher birds in the back yard, hunt out the city coons and burry them out in the woods, but if i could be seen from the highway, no way could I do those things.

Context makes a big difference. At least you were honest. Being honest with the cops is the best you can do, just try to do it with a smile, harder to yell/be rude to someone with a big fat smile on their face. It's the neighbors you need to watch out for, over enough time, the cops will take calls from the neighbors with less and less worth.

During the holidays it's fairly standard procedure. It has nothing to do with how you're dressed -- I haven't worn any hoodies, but have been asked to show my receipt on the way out. Usually on the weekends when the crowds are larger. I show my receipt to get out of Costco, so I don't think twice about it. Well...... except for the time a few years ago that the guy at the door was watching me as I checked out and THEN asked to see my receipt even though I didn't have anything that didn't fit into a bag, it wasn't the holiday shopping crunch, and he'd seen the cashier bag everything. That was irritating.

This isn't holiday behavior in El Paso, it's every day. They expect you stand behind everyone they are searching through the bags of to make sure you didn't sneak anything into a bag that doesn't belong there. I always push my cart right to the front and walk out and tell the door way gestapo that if they want to search me follow me out to the truck and they can help me unload while they do it and hope they aren't still in the back of the truck when I leave.

If you know you could have handled it better try to call the officer and appoligize. If you are going to have these neighbor problems it is better to be known as "somewhat excentric but incredibly kind" than "highly defensive and potenitally crazy." Rotten neighbors never move away and the local officers will eventually tell them to cut it out once you make them your allies.
btw- he probably wanted to see the ducks for the same reason I would want to see the ducks - because they are so awesome.

Leah-yes I know I'm crazy :

Good call!

There's no reason to be rude with law enforcement. Like somebody said, they are trained to take control of a situation and many aren't too tactful. That has got to be one of the most thankless, spirit-sapping jobs. It probably would have made his day had you greeted him, explained yourself, and thanked him for the prompt response and concern.

You know... if you are on your property (5 acres?!?!), why the heck can't you wear whatever the heck you wanna wear?? Or nothing at all for that matter.

I'd like to know who your crazy neighbors are. I'd let some of your rats loose on their land

You can, but her neighbors thought they saw some sort of animal abuse and reported it. Then the cop has to put up with yet another ungrateful citizen who feels that since the allegation is unfounded it is perfectly all right to be disrespectful of him.
