Update: Well I think I solved the mystery. The cat that tried to kill a chick has been hiding under the chicken coop. All of the birds are on high alert having a freak out. All on the roost carrying on while the chicks are shaking on the coop floor. Stray cat looking for an all night buffet. 
Tried to catch this cat to no avail. Meanwhile my pale bird looks okay but frightened and my bird that was attacked is still in the house and doing fine.
Any suggestions?
