I need a GOOD flashlight-Suggestions please!

I have a Maglite in my car, the chicken coop and the house. In the car I have one big enough to clobber someone if the need should arise. Just sayin....lol. Only thing I don't like is the led bulb hubby put in the one in the house. It's not as bright and I hate the bluish tinge. I like the rechargable one posted. I'd like knowing it's always ready to go.

Maglites are king around here but the Surefire intrigues me - I'd like to (if I ever have the money) get a .22 lever-action rifle and put one of those rails on it with a Surefire on there, and the biggest, boldest, sights I can fit to the thing - for night-time CQB with possums and coons. I know Surefires are mounted to shotguns and stuff.

As for Maglites, CostCo sells a set of a large and a small one, LED, for $32 or so, it's a great deal.

Another vote for maglites. After the initial round of batteries that come with them, we use rechargeable batteries. (We use rechargeable batteries for everything except the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Even those get rechargeables in a pinch...)

I do have a couple of other inexpensive mini or special use flashlights, but the maglites are the all around best for the price.

How far in feet in front of you do you think the maglites can shine? For example, do you think they can shine so that a person can see about 1 acre away in front of them kinda like the million watt flashlights?

They are definitely not on par with a 1,000,000 candle power spotlight with an 8" reflector, but it's hard to quantify. For our rechargeable Maglites, they have no problem lighting something up at a couple hundred feet. I can shine deer and just about make out the size of deer standing at the edge of our fence line 400' feet away. The neighbors have a reflective sign that is 800' down the road and it really lights it up, but you can't see anything else at that distance, just the reflective surface. A lot depends upon how humid or hazy it is outside too, but these flashlights are pretty darn bright.

400 feet sounds good to me.

That gives me enough distance to take out running if I see something fishy that is 400 feet away.

Thanks for your input.

Definately a Maglite.
I have thrown, hit cows, dropped and done tons of other harsh things to ours and it is still going strong.

Don't get a mag light if you want bright. Hubby loves flashlights. He says: Check out phenix, o-light, eagle tac, or jet beam. There are tons of videos on youtube so you can see how bright they are. Their is a website goinggear.com he says to look at. The guy on that site compares them to a regular mag lite.
