I need a new favorite author

Based on "Love the Mercedes Lackey books", I recommend

S.M. Sterling: Emberverse (post-apocalyptic pacific northwest; old religion and the Society for Creative Anachronism - fun!)
Anne McCaffery: Pern (telepathic dragons) and Talent (telepathic people) series
Marion Zimmer Bradley: Darkover (old earth colony on winter planet rediscovered by the new "Empire" + telepaths)

Have you read Lackey's Diana Tregarde books? They are less well known than many of her other series.

ANd if you kinda like his (of which there are now 13) READ george RR Martins : A SOng Of Ice And Fire book one is "Game of Thrones"
Recently made into a hbo series. The hbo series VERY VERY much keeps to the book. The season is over now. They start again after the new year.

The wheel of time and a song of ice and fire are similiar but Martin is SOOO much better. Many people prefer him. Its good I read the Wheel of time first, otherwise I would have been sorely disappointed.

Wheel of time WAS started first and there are many similarities.

REad it farm boy it is AWESOME!

I like Alistair MacLean. Awesome writer

I haven't read all that many though .

Not a series but give Pat Conroy a try. Cormac McCarthy has a trilogy.
Stuart Woods has a series, I got bored with it after about the second one but that's just me. His earlier books are much better.

Long, long time favorite: Ed McBain (pseudonym of Evan Hunter), also Donald Harstad, and Elizabeth Linnington (AKA Dell Shannon). Each have series to read in chronological order for best enjoyment, as their characters evolve over the years.
Best book ever: "This Perfect Day," by Ira Levin.

Have you read thr "In Death" series by Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb? I started those reading peice meal, but went back and started at the first one working my way through the entire series again.

I also enjoyed Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, and Dean Koontz "Odd Thomas" series.
